How do unknown devices get on a network - Google Chromecast and iPod - what should I do?

  @Pixie - I've just given this title an update - so we can get more responses too - about how these devices may enter your network and what you can do - if you do not have a Fingbox for example!

  @Pixie yes if you get the Fingbox you can block devices too!

  Rather than rely solely on Fing, you could interrogate your router. 1. Check Wi-fi security is enabled. 2. Ensure your network is protected by a firewall. 3. Check the DHCP table which should provide a list of devices actually connected via your router. 4. Cross check unknown devices against your Fing scan then, if required, block them via fingbox or you may be able to do the from your router.
  if you are still uncertain about some devices you can check ip addresses & MAC addresses to verify the individual identity, this information should also be available in your router DHCP table and most networked devices have a label showing the MAC address.
