Introduce yourself

Let's use this thread to meet/great new members and introduce ourselves.
Tell us a little about yourself and why you joined the Fing Community below.
About me:
I've worked in start-up marketing for the past 9 years. I've been in the Fing family for almost 5 years and have held a variety of positions in marketing and community management. I led the Fingbox Indiegogo campaign and have worked on product marketing since the product launched. My most recent project is launching and managing the Fing Community. The community was born to help everyday people get quick and easy answers to pressing technical questions.
In my spare time I like going to the gym, looking after my 2 King Charles Cavaliers (Promi & Penny) and playing music (piano, guitar and singing).
I look forward to building an amazing community alongside all of you!

Hi, I'm Gideon Summerfield - Head of Product at Fing. I joined late in 2018 and since then have been working on several developments but the most exciting is this new Community. I've been working closely with @VioletChepil and the rest of the amazing team here in making sure this provides a lot of value to Fing users and beyond.
About me:
I've been working in Product Management for a long time, at start-ups and large enterprises, including leading European broadcasters BBC and Sky. More recently I've been working in the IoT space, smart home in particular - first at Hive and now Fing. I've been a Fing app user for many years and previously worked with Fing professionally whilst at Hive, developing a proof-of-concept using Fing's presence-detection tech (as well as build great apps and devices we also licence our tech to businesses)
As a Dad to 3, I don't have much spare time and most of it is spent providing IT support for my demanding family (where the Fing app and Fingbox come in extremely useful). I've brought it on myself, I guess, as my home is full of tech from top to bottom. I am a self-proclaimed gadget-o-holic and manage my addiction by hunting down great low cost tech from China. I avoid Apple when I can and my favourite brand right now is Xiaomi, which offers the best trade off in quality and price - such as my Xiaomi Mi A1 Android Now phone and Xiaomi M365 e-scooter (BTW that's not me in the photo below - much safer to put the bag on your back!).

Hi, I am Robin Garg - Application Support Specialist at Fing. I joined Fing last year in December and since then every day I am learning something new and its been a fun ride. I am a bit of Technology Freak and try to grab every possible gadget which can make work easier. I love to try new things and experiment with them. I am constantly upgrading my skills to match the current pace in the IT industry. I have worked with some major companies like Dell and Samsung and finally with Fing.
Apart from technical things, I love to do poetry, playing games on my Playstation, dancing, playing Guitar and Chess and sometimes drawing portraits. I also love to do Adventure Sports and have been completing things from my To-Do list whenever I get a chance to. The picture below is one of the gaming rooms I love to set up one day.Robin (Admin at Fing)

Hey everyone and welcome!
I'm "Carlo from Fing"
I've been working on Fing since 2009, when we created the first Fing app with Marco and Daniele, the original three fingers. Even before then, I've been very passionate with networking and troubleshooting, my degree thesis was '[email protected]' and it's been my first experience with building a troubleshooting tool to help people in their daily job or in common wiring problems at home.
We started Fing app as a hobby, in our spare time, and now it's terrific to see it grow with such amazing team and even more with you, the users of Fing and Fingbox. Your feedback is constantly driving us to the next level, like it happened for the Fingbox, which was actually born by collecting your ideas and needs.
About me:
Apart from spending 25 hours per day in building and maintaining Fing product suite, which as you know I love very much, my huge passion is to spend time travelling around the World with my wife Nicoletta as much as possible: it's amazing because it opens your mind, you get to know so many different cultures and angles, and also changing air once a while helps very much not only in recharging batteries, but also in getting in that state of mind where you get new brilliant ideas, you are able to look at things from other perspectives.
Also I like very much reading books, mostly not IT related but literature instead. I like worldwide classics which I always try to read in original language, whenever possible. And of course I love to chill out with video streaming, watching TV series, as almost of all us nowadays...

Hi I'm Jack, I bought a fingbox from Indiegogo back in 2016 it is a great device and has come a long way since it was delivered... I wish the project many more years of success! I have an interest in networking and home automation (mainly via Apple home kit) so always keen to learn of new ways that the Fingbox can be incorporated!

Greetings. My name is Lee and I've been in IT, specifically a network admin, for more years than I want to admit (I watched Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin land on the moon). I'm in IT by day and a nature/landscape photographer any other time. Glad to be here and meet all of you and looking forward to what this community can accomplish.

Welcome @Lee_Bo it's been great having you on board so far on the Facebook group too.

Hello Everyone!
I’m Kevin and I’ve been in IT for over 18 years! Wow, time flies when you’re having fun...well, not always fun but never boring!
I’ve had my Fingbox for over 2 years and was using the app before that device existed. Great products that just keep getting better in my opinion.
Happy to meet everyone and looking forward to helping the community grow and evolve.

Thanks for the comments about Fing App/Fingbox! We try our very best
@Lee_Bo hahaha yes, well we did get some of those up in preparation for the launch so everyone knows the team members behind things! Still missing a few though like @marco_from_fing ^^Community Manager at Fing

I'm an another "Lee"... actually my full name is Leland but go by Lee as it's shortly and easier. I've had a Fing since November 2018. I purchased a Fing after investigating a similar device, CuJo, and found it lacking in the features I was looking for. Fing was a much better match for what I wanted, and sealing the deal was that fact that I didn't need to purchase a subscription to go along with the device. My principle business is real estate but I'm also a professional motorsports photographer and have an extensive background in computers. I've been a long time alpha and beta tester for a real estate software company (over 25 years). I also beta test and provide reviews for new products on an ongoing basis.

Thanks a lot @Lee and nice to meet you! Thanks also for offering those Device Reviews, those will come in handy definitely on the community. Great to have you on board!

Hi guys and gals,
I'm Marco and I'm a big fan of computers and networking, since my first Amiga and Commodore in the 80s.
I studied IT (2002-2006) and got a bachelor degree. I'm working as sysadmin + web dev for decades.
It's really awesome how dynamic IT industry actually is. Things change so fast! Things I learned at the beginning of the 2000s are kind of obsolete now. We who work in the IT industry are almost like doctors, we constantly need to improve our knowledge. I remember times when there was no Facebook, Instagram, etc. Dial-up times. I'm sure many of you still remember that annoying sound :) -
Just imagine what Fing app would look like, in the dial-up era 😂
Stay well and healthy.
Other people, those who don't work in IT, think that our job is easy, sitting in a chair and "writing something". But its actual sitting that can damage our health (spine). Swim, walk, do yoga or anything else that inspires you.
Wish everyone all the best.
PS. I think we, programmers are like tennis players... Everything's easy when you're young. 😉 In a way, maybe we have an expiration date, or we don't... But most importantly, we love what we do.

Hi my name is Anthony. I have dipped in and out of IT for a number of years, more as a hobby than anything else. I run a home lab which keeps me out of the better half's way at the weekend.
I'm looking forward to being part of the family and sharing ideas and anything else we decide to talk about.1 -
Welcome @FingLover and @fedeb000 great to meet you on the community!
@FingLover I agree about activity after working hours! This is very helpful for those of us in a desk job. Nice to have a sys admin on the group.
@fedeb000 welcome and great to have another software engineer on board!
We've definitely got a lot of experts on this community so far. Which is amazing!Community Manager at Fing

Hi, I stumbled across Fing whilst taking a cyber security unit in a series of components of a larger IT course, which also encompassed social media and robotics.
I'm a notorious early adopter of tech and have been since the earliest mobile phone, Psion personal organisers, and Symbian in Nokia days, when apps were called shareware. This evolved into learning Linux open source software at the user level, as well as the Android OS because the IT department was always too busy with our products to help out this poor sales guy.
Like your in house guy I love the Chinese tech on a 'utility vs price ratio' as it gives me in quantity what I want from it, but without the potential bankruptcy!
Hobbies include travel, classic and sports cars, calisthenics and trekking and I'm often to be found on a mountain, in a car, or on an aircraft. Strangely, the latter two seem to involve less effort! 😎

Hello all ,
Im Glen.
I worked in IT for around 25 years in total until a an opportunity came along that allowed me to take a career change and do something I had always wanted to do which I jumped at.
i still keep my hand in playing around and reading just in case I ever needed to fall back to the old job though .
hopefully I can be of help with in the community or just an avid reader of the groups !!!

Hola everyone. I'm a transplanted bear from the UK, now lost in one of the many woods and forests around Cincinnati. Been doing IT since the late 80's (bet you never knew us old bears knew about computers!) and have been lucky enough to have worked in multiple places around the globe as a result.
I'm a bear of all trades, but I specialize in data - curating, storage and all things BI. Since I am a bear of little brain, the idea of AI and machine learning to help me think better is of special interest to me.
I've had my little pucky-pal for a while now and he's been a very handy dandy little fing indeed. Looking forward to helping out in this new community where I can.People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.1 -
Hi,
many 8 bit people around here!
Me too .... Sinclair's ZX80 was my first toy in earlies 80's and from then I've been involved in IT both profesionally and like a hobby.
I found Fing looking for a parental control. .. I've a 13teen years old daughter and probably, like the rest of youngsters around the world, she would like to be full time connected with her friends and obviously that's not posible.
I spend a lot of money in IT gadgets; there is only one difference between children and adults: "the price of toys".
Well, i'll follow te community from now on.
Visit Spain !!! & good luck for everybody.

Hey everyone, I'm Jamie, an IT Manager and CAD engineer from the UK.
I've been using Fing for a fair number of years now, picked up a few Fingboxes during the Indiegogo campaign and have installed a few more along the way too.
Up until 2009 I ran a small IT consultancy in the North West of the UK with a few friends. I still do the odd little bit of carefully selected, contract IT work.
I'm also an avid DIYer, 3D printererer, maker, and potentially branching into Youtube at some point - currently building a steady following on Instagram as TheCustomCave.
Collecting skills, helping others, going to events and festivals with my wife and daughter, and learning as much as I can - I'd say those are the things that define me.1 -
Hey,
I'm Darren. I'm a NOC engineer for one of the UK's 'big 5' ISPs, so I may hopefully be of some use here in terms of insight from the core an ISPs network from time to time, certainly where my own customer base is concerned.. been in IT since... errr... a long time ago in some form or another, basically having grown up around computers, thanks to a programmer for an older brother.
outside of work, I co-run the odd gaming convention, featuring livestreams, panels, interviews, gaming etc, which is a full time job in of itself, do prop making and 3D printing...1 -
Hey everyone! My name is Barry I am a networking and gadget nerd (and proud to be one). I was a user of [email protected] and [email protected] prior to it branching out to become Fing. I remember going to download [email protected] and it recommended I check out Fing. It has been awesome to see Fing grow into what it has today!

Hi,
I'm Jason from the UK.
By day I'm a Network Architect, having had over 25 years experience in the Networks industry. I work for a UK Service provider of Wide Area Networks. By night I'm a complete and utter Nerd. I have a passion for technology, and like many here my home is full of technology. At last count my Fingbox knew of over 99 devices that regularly join my home network, including multiple Voice Assistant (Amazon Echo's mostly) and TV Streaming devices from my Plex Media Server, which has thousands and thousands of movies and tv shows on it (over 120tb of disk used!) - and evidences my other passion which is Scifi and Fantasy moves and TV shows.
Also like many others, I learned my craft on rather old computers, including the Acorn Electron, BBC Model B, and the Sinclair Spectrum. My first PC ran MS-DOS 3.3 and had 512k RAM and a 720k floppy drive!
Away from work, I enjoy walking and playing with my retired racing greyhound, reading, cooking and a spot of photography here and there.
There are 10 types of people in the world; Those that understand Binary and those that don't.2 -

MSDOS 3.3? Pah - I started MSDOS 2 - just as they brought in Folders - what a startling revelation that was! My biggest claim to geekdom was once being able to read punched tape by eye alone. Yeah, I was a sad ole bear.
Welcome!People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.1
