It’s really simple why there must be a Linux Fing desktop application. People use smartphone devices and can choose for the Fing application and there are many computer users with Mac, Windows and Linux distributions. But the Mac and Windows users can download the Fing desktop, but the enthoustic Linux users can’t. That’s a serious shame!!

So, you do:
yay -S fing
sudo fing0 -
Another up-vote for Linux support. I have moved all my Windows servers to Linux equivalents, Exchange, IIS, MS-SQL, file servers... The reduction in time spent repairing bad patches was well worth the effort. I have also moved my client machines to Linux and only use Windows to run TurboTax. The rest of my family is still using windows and I happily support them.

I don't think that's accurate. Reportedly, Chrome OS is more popular than MacOS.

Here's an article that says Chromebooks outsold Macs in 2020 for the first time ever. But that would imply that Macs would still have a higher market share due to computers sold prior to 2020. https://www.geekwire.com/2021/chromebooks-outsold-macs-worldwide-2020-cutting-windows-market-share/I believe this chart is sales which isn't the same as current market share. I wonder if this will continue as a lot of the Chrome OS units were bought by schools for online learning, which will be reduced for the 21-22 school year.

That Ars Techinca story refers to the Geekwire story that I linked to. I think these both refer to sales in 2020 as opposed to installed base. But it doesn't change the fact that Linux is has a very small market share which is the point I was making in the first place.

Although Linux may be the least used OS type, IMO it comes to closets in comparison to Fings mission of security and privacy. Windows = Microsoft
Mac = Apple
Andriod = Google
Do you trust any of these companies business models?
Now ask yourself the same question about OpenBSD and Linux platforms.......0 -
If this does become a reality I vote for Flatpak support for the Pine Phone and Librem 5 phones.0
-
Two things that come to mind for me are the recent releases of the Pine Phone and the Librem 5 phone (which would be nice to throw FingBox app on) as their is another mobile contender.
Also if Fing Dev's were to support this idea, Which package platform would that present to the public? I think something like a Flatpak would work best for compatibility with multiple Linux distributions as well as Flatpaks are sandboxed from the rest of the OS0 -
WE NEED LINUX app asap more and more people are moving to Linux OS <<< wi';,',121313213213n12131231313do.'#.'#];]['1211313213231#''#;'';#/.].]ws < is a malwarespwaretrojan combined all into one wi';,',121313213213n12131231313do.'#.'#];]['1211313213231#''#;'';#/.].]ws < was never good ever
Why do you think Linux is the mainframe of all and (every devices and systems in existence) hmmmmmmmmmm?0 -
Interesting thing is, it almost works under Linux via Wine. Fing desktop seems to have been built with multi platform frameworks such as electron, node.js etc. It is very curious they don't ship a Linux version. Is Fink afraid that someone will buy and ask for support? Why not release a Flatpak or even Snap?

Ilgaz I Think you are right. But, even for Windows the people can't to ask for support?
Could you tell me if I install the Fing app code via Codeweaver would it work correctly?

I unplugged my Fing box 6 months ago and I don't miss it. Unifi manages my home network, while untangle is the firewall. It's all working wonderfully with my Linux clients.

Why is there still not a Linux version? I'm so glad I got the free month on my phone. Cancelling the subscription immediately. I have no use for this if its only Windows desktop and macOs 🤔 wtf? And this post was made in 2020 nearly 3 years ago still no Linux version.. I'm sure I c could find a way to make it run on Linux but I shouldn't have to do that which is why I cancel the subscription and go for an alternative like nmap. Such a waste. Is good software wasted on Windows and mac users, I guess they do need it more and end of the day it's all about the money..

Well not quite so simple. I think it's safe to assume that in the ranks of people compelled to do network scans the percentage of Linux users is considerably higher than it is in the general public.

Linux is still barely a blip in the desktop OS market as is Android. It's still boils down to allocating valuable development resources to where Fing will make the most money which today would seem to be Windows and a much lesser extent macOS.
For the mobile app, the picture would be different as there are only two players of any significance, Android and iOS. Graph below screenshot from Statcounter and shows market share as of December 2022.
Note I'm focused on desktop and mobile and NOT server, where the story would be different but as this is a desktop and mobile device product, I chose to focus on them.
