Fing 2.6.0 Memory usage

Is it normal behaviour for Fing desktop to use considerable amount of memory. Current it is using nearly 2GB RAM and laptop is running hot with fan going. If I kill Fing app then laptop cools and fan stops. Is this normal?

    @VeggieK, the memory Fing is using seems excessive.  @Robin, any idea why Fing is taking up so much memory and what can VeggieK do to mitigate?

    To update, GPU/CPU is used seamlessly by our UI framework to render pages and graphics. 
     You can disable this utilization but maps won't be working on Fing desktop. To disable Hardware Acceleration, click on the Fing desktop version and then go to 'Preferences' and then 'Disable Hardware Acceleration' which will fix your issue.

    @Robin thanks for the suggestion will try it now. I have never seen this level of utilisation in previous versions and seems to appeared in v2.6.0

    @Robin I have stopped Fing from starting automatically but have noticed that Fing Agent Service (32 bit) is running in background regardless. Is this normal?
    Also by disabling Hardware Acceleration as you suggested has stopped the high memory usage. Thanks!

    Fing agents will run if you have minimized Fing desktop to system tray or it is running in background so it will do its regular scan every hour(free users) or 10-20mins(premium users)

    @Robin - sorry maybe was not clear. I disabled Fing desktop from running at startup as I wanted to stop it eating away memory. So was surprised that the fing agent service was running, even though the application had not started. Is this normal behaviour?

    Can you open Fing desktop preferences by clicking on your name on Fing desktop and select preferences and see if Fing desktop is set to launch at boot or not? Also, can you check under task manager if Fing desktop is enabled for system start up?

    @Robin, fing is not set to launch in the app and also disabled in system start up. However fing agent service is still running with high mem usage

    Can you share the screenshot of the task manager where fing agent is running? Also, if you close the fing agent, does it open again under task manager?

    @Robin Here is the screenshot. Fing is not set to start at windows start up but the agent service still runs. I have tried manually running Fing and then closing but the service continues to run regardless

    @Robin, on my Windows 10 Pro, latest retail channel version, I see the same behavior.  Disabling the Desktop app still kicks off the Fing Service on reboot or restart, regardless of whether the Fing Desktop has run.  

    What I found is that the Fing Agent is a Service set to auto start.  If one wants to disable it, you would need to do this via task manager, otherwise it will continue to start on restart and reboot.

    What happens if you close this running Fing agent from task manager? Does it automatically enable again or stays closed?

    @Robin it automatically enables again. Only way to stop this is to go into services and disable fing agent completely

    I would advice you to completely uninstall Fing desktop using revo uninstaller or iobit uninstaller and then reboot device and then re-install the Fing desktop again to check if the same thing happens. It seems like some earlier versions Fing desktop agent is still running in backgorund.

    @Robin - I used revo to uninstall fing and rebooted but now found fing.agent present in services. That was not present previously. I have not reinstalled Fing until I have completely cleaned my system, however not sure how to remove fing.agent

    @VeggieK, try this.  Stop and disable the service and reboot.  Then try the uninstaller again and see if it clears it out.  Revo has something called forced uninstall that also might help.  If all these fail to remove the service, see this articles for the nuclear option on manually removing a service….  https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-delete-a-windows-service-in-vista-or-xp/

    @Marc - thanks for the info. I followed your instructions but Revo found nothing. However Fing.Agent is still present in services. I have manually disabled it but seems to not be deleted nor can I find a way to delete it.  Do you recommend I try the "nuclear" option? Thanks

    Yes, I think if your looking to remove it, this is an option. Take extra care to choose the correct service name when running the command.

    @marc, to be honest, I want to reinstall. This issue started as fing desktop was using high memory. So I wanted to remove and clean up and then reinstall hoping this would resolve. However I do not seem to be able to remove it completely. Not sure whether to keep going trying to remove this last service or just reinstall

    It will not hurt to reinstall as all the bits will go back to the right places. Just make sure the service is not running when you reinstall. Also, choose the defaults if it asks you anything during the install.

    @Marc I have reinstalled and service was not running during reinstall. Fing would not work and I had to manually restart the service. I thought the reinstall would restart the service. I will monitor now to see if I have high memory usage again. One thing I have noticed is that Fing is not finding a variety of devices that are on and connected to wifi and LAN.

    I'm thinking it remembered the last state of the service as it was not removed, just over written, so be sure you set it back to auto at some point.

    yes I have set it back to auto. So far mem utilisation is pretty low so hopefully this has addressed the issue. Any idea why random devices are appearing offline when in fact they are on line. These are items on wifi and LAN, windows devices, printer, various other devices. I can ping them from laptop and know they are connected on network but Fing is not seeing them. Any thoughts on this?

    If the devices are connected to different access point such as 5Ghz and Fing desktop is monitoring 2.4 Ghz network then it can happen and show online devices as offline.

    @Robin thanks for this. All devices are on same access point as this is all I have.  Does Fing desktop just monitor only 2.4Ghz or will it monitor both frequencies belonging to same AP?

    To monitor all frequencies, you need to connect your device to all access points one by one and then run the device scan. Once you scan all access points then Fing desktop will merge the same connection together. After that, check if the online devices are still showing offline or not?

    sorry if i am not following but i only have one AP. So all devices are connected to this one wifi router provided by my ISP. So everything should be merged together by Fing desktop. Or am I missing something?
