Initiate an IP address refresh

Today I needed to give an existing device a new specific static address. I did so on my router.
So all good. However, for as long as the device was connected, and until its lease expired, I was stuck with the old IP address. I immediately turned to the Fing App hoping to see a device action to refresh or release its IP address.
Eventually I resorted to rebooting my router (and disrupting the rest of my family from their important social media activities).
If it is possible to force a lease expiry or IP refresh on a specific device to relinquish its IP and take on a newly assigned static address that would be a really useful little feature.
