Misidentified device

This isn't so much a question as a bug report I guess.

Fing is identifying my ASUS Zephyrus laptop as a Roomba. Is it identifying it by MAC address or is there some API running on my laptop that I should be worried about?

    @Nyghtburn, Fing uses the MAC address to identify a device.  Do you even have a Roomba?

    Wow...  I’ll tag @Ciaran from Fing here but the general answer from Fing is to edit the entry by filling in the name and notes fields with the correct information for the device.  So name would be laptop manufacturer model type for instance...

    Nope. Not at all.

    And that is definitely my laptop's MAC address.

    It's more amusing to me than anything, other than that the app works beautifully. Guess ASUS went to the same place as iRobot for this Mobos Wifi chip.

    Hi @Nyghtburn
    To verify the misidentified device, I would suggest to:  

    • Install the Fing Desktop  

    • Sign in and Go to Home tab  

    • Scan for devices  (Check if it is still identified as Roomba)

    • If the device is still recognized as Roomba then Click on the specific device  

    • Click on Icon "Recognize" device  

    On our latest release of Fing Desktop (1.4.0) and onwards, we have actually included New feature: Device recognition - It is now possible to manually recognize devices: when Fing recognition is not sharp enough, you can manually provide brand and model of your devices. Which will hopefully be of benefit to you. Thanks again

    @Robin , any idea when that feature will be in the Fing app? I believe that’s what @Nyghtburn is using.

    On the Fing app, our developers are already working on introducing the same manual recognition but it would be at least 2-3 weeks before releasing it to production. If there is any update like pre-release or delay, I will update you all.

    Today I noticed it's identifying my Nintendo Switch as an MacBook Pro. There are no Apple devices on my network. The MAC addr is being reported correctly and traces back to the manufacturer of the network devices for Switches (Asix).

    Go figure.

    Have you tried to manually recognize the device. We already introduced a new feature to manually assign the correct identification to the devices. Please try to identify the device manually and then check. Thanks
