Help with Wake on LAN

New user, mobile phone app.

I can’t wake-on-Lan my headless Mac Mini late 2012 with Mojave, which is on the same network as the phone. It is set up to wake for network access. I have manually added its MAC address to Fing.

Is there something I’m not doing?

(An aside—I note that for another Mac mini on the network, a 2020 model with Catalina, Fing has found the MAC address without my intervention. Why did Fing find the MAC address for that mini but not the other one?)

    Thanks @rooted

In order for WOL to work, there are some requirements.

    For WOL:
    - MAC Address available (manually entered Mac address wont work)
    - Connected to the Same network as the device
    - Not Watched by Digital Fence

    Are you using an iPhone?

iOS apps can't read MAC addresses, Apple says it's a security risk.

As I said, I entered the MAC address manually for the mini I want to wake (and, by the way, the app itself is reading the MAC address for the other mini).

I can't explain how your other device is showing the MAC unless you have ever scanned your network with Fing Desktop or with an Android device and it was synced to your account.

Are you sure WoL is functioning on the Mac Mini?

The other mini is a side issue, let's ignore that for now. Can you help me to wake the mini I'm talking about, where I entered a MAC address manually?

OK, to be clear, ignore the other thing. So, this is my question...
I'm a new Fing user with the iOS mobile app on my iPhone.

    Robin, thanks.
I think I fall at the first hurdle. I have to manually enter the MAC address, so I assume from what you say that is a no go.
Oh well. And Fing looks pretty good otherwise.
