The app needs to check if a firewall is active and open a port if it needs to, otherwise the http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx endpoint can't be reached.

Hi @UsagiNZ, welcome to our community.
Is this a message that you receive in the Fing App for Desktop? I haven't experienced this yet, so I would like to know more about it and what it's attempting to do."There's a fine line between audacity and idiocy."

Sorry for the late reply, I don't seem to be getting notified of responses.
I'm just using the built-in Windows Firewall. It's on by default on my network, even for local traffic. So the port that Fing Desktop is trying to use to improve device detection, is blocked. I just created a rule in the Windows Firewall settings to allow connections on that port.
There were no error messages as such, just that the device I was on, trying to connect to the Find Desktop URL for improved device detection, was unable to connect to that port, until I opened it in the Firewall settings, on the Windows 10 machine that was running Fing Desktop.0
