Fing App 12.0.0 - critical feature deprecation issue????
Hello All,
With Fing App 12.0.0 on Android a crucial feature appears to have disappeared for those of us with Fingboxes...unless I'm missing something obvious which is entirely possible.
On version 11.x.y information on the current wi-fi network one was connected to including SSID & BSSID was always presented (this has vanished from the new widgets screen) regardless of whether there was a Fingbox connected to the network and one could 'Scan for devices' on said network with the option to use the Fingbox or crucially NOT.
This functionality appears to have disappeared in 12.0.0 which is a huge problem.
I had to remove one of my Fingboxes from a network recently and was unable to scan the network it was part of using Fing until I reconnected it which appears to be a huge oversight. Please advise if this functionality is still there. I initially thought the Current Wi-Fi option from the ... menu would be where I find this functionality but behind the scenes it continues to pick the offline Fingbox network rather than let me scan anew.
Also, while I'm here can I ask why the shortcut to the Fing Community was removed from the App?
Cheers,
S.

Hey @SRP
The shortcut was removed on the application because we found users would reach out to the community instead of the designated support channel. In terms of design and functionality we believe more users would benefit from the current layout as opposed to the older.
In relation to your issue, do you see this information in the 'Network' tab of your Fingbox Dashboard?0 -
Hi @Karl_From_Fing,
Thanks so much for the reply. I forgot there was a designated support channel outside the FAQ info but I now see, and remember, the Submit A Request functionality.
Turning back to the main issue to hopefully better illustrate the problem. Let’s say I have a WLAN network with an SSID MyWiFi. With Fing 12.0.0 on an Android device connected to MyWiFi and no Fingbox I can scan MyWiFi to my heart’s content. As soon as I connect a Fingbox to MyWiFi, once I unplug said Fingbox I can NEVER again scan MyWiFi with Fing 12.0.0. All that I have access to from the moment of disconnection is the state of the Fingbox network for MyWiFi at the point in time the Fingbox was last connected…a snapshot that gets more stale by the minute.
Regarding the question about the Network tab. This shows the SSID the Fingbox was assigned to and BSSIDs of monitored APs, rather than the BSSID my Android device running Fing 12.0.0 is connected to currently.
The Current Wi-Fi panel of 11.8.3 used to display the SSID and BSSID the Android device upon which Fing was running was connected to and crucially provide the now missing Scan for Devices->Show Fingbox Network OR Scan functionality that resolved the MyWiFi scenario outlined above.
This seems like an unintended consequence of the UI refresh surely? I struggle to see how it can be by design.
Like I said, if I’m being a buffoon and missing something please advise.
Cheers,
