Trusting a Fingbox bought on eBay

I recently purchased a Fingbox on eBay since they are not currently available through Amazon here in the US.  I have not connected it yet because I have become worried that perhaps these devices could become compromised.   Is there a way to validate the code running on my "new" Fingbox is clean?  Also, how can I tell if this device was already registered to someone before I purchased it?  My device model is FIN-B-002
