My Fing Desktop seems to have stopped functioning, even after manual service restarts and full computer reboots.
I am running Windows 10, AMD 12 core Threadripper, 32GB Ram. I am connected via ethernet cable to my local network.
I see this error in the logs:
ERROR 2021/06/27 09:44:22.431 NetworkWirelessAvailableDetails | Error encountered. Code: -2144067582

@datagod, assuming nothing has changed in your PC configuration since it was working, try disabling hardware acceleration. Its in the preferences section and will require you restart the Fing app. let us know if this work...Thats Daphnee, she's a good dog...1

I disabled hardware accelaration and restarted the service and the app. Still getting the same behavior.

Thanks for the follow up. Let me tag @Robin from Fing to see if he can help out.
In the interim, can you also run this command at a dos prompt and let us know the output? Looking for the status of ncap, which Fing needs to do it’s thing.

I have been using that network setup for over a year however, and Fing was working just fine.
Here is a recent error in the windows eventlog.Faulting application name: fingagent.exe, version: 2.6.0.0, time stamp: 0x60818213Faulting module name: MSVCR90.dll, version: 9.0.30729.9625, time stamp: 0x5db2747fException code: 0x40000015Fault offset: 0x0005beaeFaulting process id: 0x1434Faulting application start time: 0x01d76f41557aeb78Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Fing\resources\extraResources\fingagent.exeFaulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.9625_none_508ef7e4bcbbe589\MSVCR90.dllReport Id: 5157752e-7409-48b9-81b1-e8739c29c6fbFaulting package full name:Faulting package-relative application ID:0 -
datagod said:Rebooting into safe mode did not help. I also tried installing on an older Windows 7 machines, I get the exact same issue. Could this be a router/network issue? I am using OpenWRT on a Linksys WRT3200ACM router. I am also using PiHole for DNS.Robin (Admin at Fing)

@datagod
For the error, I can see the Faulting module name: MSVCR90.dll which happens when you have WinPcap and NpCap installed together and causing a conflict. I would advice to completely uninstall Fing desktop using Revo uninstaller or look for the location of Faulting module name: MSVCR90.dll and delete it. After that reboot device and install Fing desktop again and it will resolve the issue.Robin (Admin at Fing)

Well, after purging and re-installing several times, 20 reboots, examining the router, the network settings, evertything I could think of I have just simply given up ever running Fing desktop on my main computer. I remembered there is a mobile app, so I used that. It works great, eliminating the router as a possibility. I'll just chalk this up to DLL hell.
I will install on a different computer on my network and simply move on with my life.0 -
The saga continues.
On a windows 7 computer, I uninstalled anything to do with wireshark, nmap, etc. I then installed npcap1.5 (failed to start) then npcap 1.31.
I rebooted, installed Fing desktop, rebooted again.
Now the error I am getting in the Fing.agent log:ERROR 2021/07/13 12:07:17.186 === fing agent 2.6.0 - www.fing.io ===ERROR 2021/07/13 12:07:21.353 HeartBeatEngine | Unable to generate network signature: cannot find gateway MACERROR 2021/07/13 12:07:25.318 Unable to discover ethernet network 0.0.0.0/0 since it's not activeERROR 2021/07/13 12:07:28.881 RouterNatPmp | Exception : Unable to Receive NATPmp message : The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request
My network connection is definitely active. Fing says it can't connect to the internet but still does a bandwith speed check. Also the main health checks pass. Router check passes. Everything except "list devices" which is still complainiing that there is no network.
I am connected using ethernet cable, not wireless.
Is there any debug/diagnostic I can turn on at the service level? I believe the problem is with Fing.Agent service.0 -
The never ending saga continues. The clean windows install that I put Fing on...well it worked for 1 day then stopped working.
ERROR 2021/07/15 14:36:52.315 === fing agent 2.6.0 - www.fing.io ===ERROR 2021/07/15 14:38:05.677 RouterNatPmp | Exception : Unable to Receive NATPmp message :The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request
I think it is clear by this time that Fing 2.6.0 is the culprite. It is just too unstable.0 -
@Robin can you please review this thread and give me some advice? I have a premium subscription but I don't see the value of it anymore without the desktop application working.
To sum up:
2.6.0 stopped working on my main PC. I made no changes.
I followed your instructions to cleanly uninstall and re-install, made sure there were no other versions of npcap or wincap installed.
No luck.
Then I installed on a clean version of Windows 10 and it worked for a day, then stopped.
I have spent dozens of hours troubleshooting this.
Is there any advanced diagnostic logging that I can enable to see what the exact problem is? If not I'll have to cancel my subscription.
