That is impressive use of the data Fing collects, honestly I didn't know all that was shared.

Important to note also (as included on the bottom of the article:

    About this data

These reports show how home and office occupancy change compared to a baseline. The changes were calculated using aggregated and anonymised data collected by Fing probes. The changes discovered during the Covid-19 period are compared to a baseline value: the baseline is the median value, for the corresponding indicator over the previous time period (January and February 2020). We calculated these insights based on the anonymized data from Fing probes spread over the world, so the data represents a sample. As with all samples, this may or may not represent the exact behavior of a wider population.

The analysis we have presented was supported by a high quality level of device recognition, which enables us to know what kind of devices are in the network with precision. Click here to find out the total number of probes, as well as the drill down per country.

    Preserving privacy

This analysis was created to provide meaningful insights while protecting people’s privacy and complying with our privacy protocols. Indeed, data is anonymized and no personal information like an individual’s location, contacts or movement has been made public. These reports are powered by the same anonymisation technology that we use in our Device Recognition products every day and that keep your activity data private and secure, while still providing cutting-edge identification of networking devices.

I read it was anonymised and knew some of it was shared, such as data outages and speed tests. But I didn't think "People" data was shared as it doesn't seem relevant.

This is really a fascinating side affect of the data Fing collects to do its primary work.  It's difficult to appreciate whats possible with the telemetry  out of the apps and devices Fing collects from until you see it in black and white.
