How Do I fix the Fing Desktop Install & Launch?

Maybe this will help someone else. My problem is SOLVED. I've used Fing on my mobile for many years--without creating an account. With the new Fing Desktop, things didn't work on my laptop (see above for details). Exhausting all other avenues, I added my (new Fing Desktop) account information to my Fing MOBILE device. When I logged back into Fing DESKTOP--BOOM! All good now. Insert smiley face here. Fing ROCKS!
I have no idea why this worked.0 -
Hi @Sawone
In your case, as you mentioned you are not able to get past the Web app i.e. Sign in screen. Then Can you try to make a different browser as your default browser and then check if you are able to sign in or not?Robin (Admin at Fing)

Hi @Sawone
Can you try to uninstall the application and then reinstall the application from the download link: https://www.fing.com/products/fing-desktop? Can you also share the O.S version of the device on which you are running the Fing Desktop?

Thanks, Robin. Uninstalled & Reinstalled via the link you shared. Sadly, no joy. However, I did get a permission request that did not appear the first time. I use Trend Micro for security, and during the install this time, a popup asked if it should block or trust this program. Of course, I said Trust. The install completed without any visible issues.
Logging in was as before--no problem reported. But still no joy. The first image is a screenshot of what I get when logged into Fing. The Fing logo top left doesn't do anything except change the URL to https://app.fing.com/app#init:networks. The waffle menu and the location icon glow on hover, but they don't do anything. The account menu seems to work, but I don't see any options to correct this issue. The third image is the Fing App Window.

@Sawone , apologies in advance if you tried this already but are pop ups enabled for the site ? Also, could you disable trend temporarily while you try to log into the app to see if it can be eliminated from a possible cause?

@Sawone, lets see if we can get some info for the Fing folks to start troubleshooting this....
If you click on the Fing version in the bottom-left part of the sidebar you would be able to click on the log service button and the folder of your service will open. Could you DM(private message) @Robin (He's on this thread) the "log.log" file if it is present in the folder? Also, send the fing-agent.log file ( without any number after 'agent' ) that you can find in the service log folder. You need to compress, or Zip, both files together to attach it to the DM.
And, please send the information on what is returning by typing this URL "http://127.0.0.1:48080/getFingagentinfo" on your browser?

Hi @Sawone
You have sent the screenshot from the Web App. @Marc was referring to the Fing Desktop version. If you open the Fing Desktop and then you will find the version number with 'i' icon. I hope it helps.

@Robin Alas, my Fing Desktop is still broken. When I launch and click Sign In, it opens a Chrome Browser Window for the login. Upon logging in, Fing runs in the browser instead of the Desktop App. I tried another Uninstall/Reinstall, and the gray bar menu at the top of the Desktop App is back, but the rest is unchanged. Please help when you can.1

Hi @frank4wheels
Can you confirm if you have any VPN connection or any firewall running on your device which is blocking the connection of Fing Desktop to its servers?
If you have any firewall, can you either disable it or put Fing Desktop in Whitelist so it can make the connection to its servers and then check if the issue persists?
If the Issue persists, Can you please share the log files with us?
One way:
To access the log files, If you click on the Fing Desktop version in the bottom-left part of the sidebar you would be able to click on 'i' icon which provides two folders to open. Can you open the app log folder and share the log.log file if it is present in the folder? Also, send the fing-agent.log file ( without any number after 'agent' ) that you can find in the service log folder. You need to compress both files together to attach it or share on Zendesk.
Another way(Manual):
You need to go to the location of the Fing Desktop folder and get the log files manually. You need to share the log.log file from the app log folder. And, fing-agent.log file (without any number after 'agent') from the service log folder.
For Windows:
To do this, go to this location by putting the address under ‘Run’ window (Press CTRL+R to open)
1) C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\FingAgent\Log (Service Log Folder)
2) C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Fing (App Log Folder)
For MAC:
To do this, click on Finder and then from the option on Top, click on ‘Go’ or you can press the shortcut(Shift+Cmd+G) and type the location below and get the log files.
Service Folder: /Library/Logs/FingAgent

Hi, @Robin my problem also persists. Since I had never seen the Fing Desktop, I didn't know what the app should do. For me, it only opens the web browser as stated above. I now understand Fing Desktop is NOT WORKING as expected. I have turned off Trend. No joy. I have added Fing to the exceptions/allowed list on Trend and Windows Defender Firewall. (See the pics) Still no joy.
For me, there are no log files that I can find. I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. I love Fing, but this has become a beating. If you have instructions, I'll try once more.0 -
Hi @Robin
Switching the default browser to Firefox allowed Fing Desktop to WORK CORRECTLY after the browser advanced to the Open Fing Desktop button shown in the image! Woohoo!
I could manually change the default browser each time I want to use Fing Desktop, but that seems a bit much. Given that Chrome is my preferred browser, is there guidance on getting past the issue with Chrome?0 -
Hi @Robin,
UPDATE After switching back to Chrome as my default browser, now the Fing Desktop App launches without opening a Chrome tab for a password request. NICE! Not sure this current situation will persist, but I hope it does! Let me know if there is any info you need from my machine. Thanks for your help.1 -
Thanks for the feedback @Sawone

I have no VPN connection at all.
I use COMODO; before open Fing Desktop I closed it.
I tried also to uninstall and reinstall Fing Desktop.
I don't see the " 'i' icon":
1) C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\FingAgent\Log (Service Log Folder)See file C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\FingAgent\log\fing-agent.log attached.
2) C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Fing (App Log Folder)
The folder "logs" is empty.
See file C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Fing\log.log attached.
As I wrote, if I ask:
I see errors:0 -

even if in left down I see
I made Microsoft Edge as default browser, but nothing changed:
No problem: I can live without Fing desktop.0 -
