From a security perspective, what are the parameters on when Google home is listening and recording or not.  And with that, can users access the files to see what is maintained on recordings?

So security researchers have been trying to prove these devices are always sending back data since they first released, but outside of glitches they haven't been able to.

To date, no one has actually found evidence to support the theory that Google or Alexa are sending everyth you say back. All research seems to point to them only sending data back when the trigger word or phrase is spoken.

My own triage research supports this, but I haven't gone to any great lengths to try and reverse engineer any of the network traffic. I've monitored them and found that asides from infrequent but regular connectivity checks that are Kbs in size they largely don't do anything.
