Find open ports scan limited to defined TCP Services list

When running an open port scan on a device I have just noticed that if a port is not defined in the TCP Services list then it does not get probed. Ideally I would have liked it to identify all open ports and maybe display ‘unknown’ next to undefined ones unless of course it’s meant to do that and this is a bug. If however this is intended functionality is there a quick and easier method to get all ports entered into the services list or perhaps some other way of doing this as I think it’s essential that an open port be identified whether it’s in the list or not. Thanks for you help.

Hi @niknick so I've confirmed with our support team.
You can add ports to scan manually if those ports are not included. As of now there is no way to scan all ports which are not added to the TCP services. You need to manually add all the ports one by one. Usually, Fing remote port scan performs a check on all available 65k ports.
There are more than 65k ports so if any of the ports user know that are missing you can add using the + button. Even though scan lasts approx. 2 minutes in order to avoid heavy traffic towards your public IP, some routers and firewalls might detect it as a burst attack. Common anti-burst detection can temporarily ban the Fing server performing the scan. As a result, you are going to see fewer ports on the list.

As for the feature request, could you submit a new one here? https://community.fing.com/categories/feature-requests
This post now has some really nice information in it and I think its a good reference for other Fing users, which is why I'm hoping you could add a new post!
Let me know what you think.
    Cheers,
    Violet

Hi @niknick thanks for your question. If this is how it is working - then I guess this is more a feature request?
We do accept feature requests and I'm happy to turn this thread into a feature request for you which we store here!

@niknick have you also tried to edit the TCP services? And add any?

Hi. I have yes and confirmed that once added the port appeared in the scan. As I say ideally would be nice for the scan to identify all ports named or not or maybe give us the choice to run a normal or advanced scan. Is there a way I can import more ports quickly? Thanks.

I do not believe so. But, I can double check in on this tomorrow with our support team. (Our support team based in Ireland and I'm in the UK and its an Irish holiday today)... thus it'll be a slight delay. And I'll confirm with you tomorrow. If not, are you happy for me to turn this thread into a feature request for you?

That’s fine. Yes please on the feature request would be great thank you. I’m UK based too, might have a look at installing your CLI and see what that’s capable of and catch up tomorrow once you here from support on making it part of the app. Thanks again. Nick.

Oh very nice. These are legacy and we not provide any support, however. Actually we'll be opening up beta testing for Fing App desktop (PC/MAC) very soon too. If you follow this channel, you'll get alerted on that:
